
Ferrite powder is mixed into a compound, and then injection molded in the same way as plastic. The injection molding process allows for molding directly on, in, or over other components thereby reducing secondary processing costs. This is called “insert” or “over-molding”. Injection molded magnets can be produced from very simple forms to quite complex shapes in sizes up 100 g. Further processing is rarely required, but if necessary, this can be achieved using conventional tools.
Although tooling for this manufacturing process is usually very costly, the unit price is very low. Parts produced through this process can have very intricate shapes and tight tolerances. Injection molded ferrite properties are either lower than, or about the same as grade 1 Ferrite. Multi-Pole magnetization is easily achievable.
